Welcome to LIF – Laboratory of Forest Inventory

The Laboratory of Forest Inventory (LIF) is a research unit of Géodata Paris, within the French National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information (IGN).

Located in Nancy on a historic forestry and engineering campus, now part of AgroParisTech, LIF works at the intersection of forest science, data science, and decision support.

Our mission is to develop innovative methods for forest monitoring and inventory by combining field observations, remote sensing, and statistical modelling. Our work supports sustainable forest management, environmental assessment, and responses to ecological and climate transitions.

LIF is embedded in a strong academic ecosystem and collaborates closely with leading research and higher-education partners, including Université de Lorraine (UL), INRAE, and AgroParisTech (APT).
